Here are my favorite movies like Love & Mercy that I think you should not miss! Keep in mind the list is in no particular order.

 

Gone Girl (2014)

This is from one of the most critically acclaimed directors David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). The film was nominated for the 2015 Academy Awards for  Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Rosamund Pike and the Golden Globes for Best Original Score, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. Nick Dunne is the everyman, who lives in a small town in Missouri with his wife. On the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick found out that his wife has gone missing. As the days pass days during the pursuit of his wife, we notice there’s something off about Nick’s behavior. Some things he says doesn’t seem to add up. And everything is pointing to Nick being the murderer of his wife.

 

Her (2013)

Film director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation., and Where the Wild Things Are) brings us a both sweet and peculiar love story. In the future, a man named Theodore is now in the final stages of the divorce of his wife. He works as a letter writer, plays video games, and hangs out with his friends but they can’t replace the loneliness he is feeling. One day he decides to buy an OS-1, the first artificially intelligent operating system to help with his loneliness. It’s here that he meets Samantha, the A.I. program. Then they both start to develop feelings for one another but this particular love story doesn’t have a happy ending. Her has won the 2014 Academy Awards for Best Writing, Original Screenplay and nominated for also the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Joaquin Phoenix.

 

Almost Famous (2000)

This movie is from Cameron Crowe (Say Anything…, Jerry Maguire, and Aloha), and it won the 2001 Academy Awards for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, and also won at the Golden Globes for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, Kate Hudson and Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, and nominated for both awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Frances McDormand. Fifteen-year-old William Miller is given the chance of the lifetime. Hired by the Rolling Stones magazine as a writer, he goes on tour with an up and coming band known as Stillwater. While writing a story about them, he meets the mysterious Penny Lane and starts to fall for her. Is a wonderfully witty coming-of-age film that will grab you by the heart.

 

Whiplash (2014)

Andrew wants to be the greatest jazz drummer in the world. While attending his first year at Shaffer Conservatory of Music, the best music school in the United States he got noticed by Terence Fletcher and was asked to play in his studio band. Overwhelmed with joy, Andrew thinks to himself that it’s going to be a blast but he will learn very quickly that being under by Terence will test his limited and may break down Andrew down the road. Whiplash won for the 2015 Academy Awards for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, Best Achievement in Film Editing, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, J.K. Simmons and nominated for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay and Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Dallas Buyers Club won both the 2014 Golden Globes and Academy Awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Jared Leto and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Matthew McConaughey and nominated for Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Film Editing, and Best Motion Picture of the Year. In 1985, in Dallas, Ron Woodroof is a rodeo rider. He also does cocaine and has lots of sex with hookers and women in general. One day He faints in his trailer, then went to go to see a doctor, only to find out that he has AIDS. The doctor says he has thirty days to live. In desperation, he goes to Mexico to see if there are other methods and finds out about a cocktail, that is more effectively helping him. Now, Ron will do all he can to help others out by any means necessary.

 

Boyhood (2014)

The film follows Mason, as we see him grow literally on screen in the span of 12 years. We see him go through rough times, as his mother dates the wrong guys. But there is also the good times as well when he gets to spend time with his dad. We see him go through life problems. We watch him as he does his best to deal with things such as puberty, going to high school, and dating girls.

 

Fury (2014)

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)

Now, trying to achieve success on stage he must fight the demons that lie within. Will he be able once and for all find the inner peace he desperately has been wanting for so long?
