Top 10 Best Sonic Games Ever?

Top 10 Sonic the Hedgehog Games

For this list, we chose titles from Sonic’s main platforming adventures. Which means we’re excluding his racing and fighting games such as all-stars racing transformed and Sonic the fighters.

10. Sonic Heroes

Sometimes Sonic’s powers alone aren’t enough to take on Dr. Robotnik. Thankfully in this game, you get to control four teams of three characters each with different abilities.

Some of the lesser known characters get to take the spotlight like Vector the Crocodile and Charmy the Bee. All are perfect for zipping through the game’s 14 levels.

9. Sonic Adventure

Sega gamers were so excited about this title when it was released that some thought that it could save the struggling Dreamcast, though it didn’t. It was a huge leap forward for the series as it featured multiple characters with unique abilities from fan favorites like Sonic Tails and Knuckles, To one character we’d like to throw into a meat grinder. Big the stupid cat.

Nonetheless, there’s lots of variety to be found as the game features some 50 play areas to keep you busy for hours.

8. Sonic Advance 3

It’s the only Game Boy Advance exclusive title on our list but that’s far from the only thing that makes it stand out. Though the series often emphasizes teamwork, this game takes it to another level by having secondary characters support you through tag actions which allow you to take advantage of their skills.

Those with the link cable and a buddy can indulge in some ultra satisfying cooperative action.

7. Sonic Generations

The series has a long history and this game captures it perfectly. The levels come from the franchise’s 20-year history and feature bosses from earlier titles. Play as classic Sonic and experience the iconic 2d side-scrolling gameplay or play as modern Sonic for a contemporary feel. It’s sure to bring you back to your 16-bit childhood memories.

6. Sonic the Hedgehog

This is the one that started it all and it’s not hard to see why it sparked our love for the blue hedgehog. The fast-paced Side-scrolling gameplay won gamers over instantly and had us taken out our enemies with spin attacks.

We’d do whatever it took to get our hands on the Chaos Emeralds and stop Robotnik from taking over the world.

5. Sonic Colors

after dealing with a string of horrible Sonic games prior, Sega finally got it right by combining 2d side-scrolling and third-person perspectives with an experiment that goes back and forth between the two. The result is great for getting Sonic through the bizarre amusement park where Eggman enslaved the alien wisps.

The wisps addition to the hedgehog’s powers helped us use his abilities in ways we never thought possible.

4. Sonic Adventure 2

The follow-up to the first adventure managed to improve on a successor greatly. In this game, it’s easy to get around and the camera mechanics got better. Whether you’re playing the sonic and shadow speed levels or the tails and Eggman shooting missions or even getting into breeding the cute little Chao’s, You’re sure to have a lot of fun.

3. Sonic 3 and Knuckles

This game was originally developed together with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. If you use the lock-on technology feature you can put both cartridges in the Genesis at the same time and play through them as one game. By doing this you can use characters that don’t appear in the other game to access hidden areas.

The games were also notable for introducing unofficially having Michael Jackson work on the soundtrack.

2. Sonic CD

In CD, Sonics fangirl Amy Rose was introduced to the series as were some awesome gameplay features. The time travel system allows you to go between different time periods within the levels by maintaining a fast speed and hitting posts labeled past or future.

No matter where you are in time the detailed backgrounds are gorgeous to look at and the techno score is the perfect soundtrack to the furious action.

1. Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Taking the top spot is Sonic’s iconic second outing and our choice for the number one Sega Genesis game as well. Since we loved the larger levels speed your gameplay and Super dash attack that this game added. It also introduced tales who became among the most iconic characters in the series.

The title helped Sega catch up with Nintendo in the console wars, and it assured Sonic’s place in gaming history.
