Resistance
Duane is neutral to almost all elements and status but has a 50% buff to Dark elements. He offers some utility such as power and magic break, reducing their physical and magic damage. He can also counter enemy magic attacks, which is a rare skill to have.
He also has atk+20% and def+10% as passive abilities, making him more durable against physical attacks. He can also drain health with drain and also from his limit burst, which is a AoE dark physical damage with hp drain. Quite useful in long drawn out battles against bosses.
Another good thing is that he can learn mid level black magic. His trust master reward is also good against bosses. However, since you can get bio blaster as you progress in game, it may make it less lucrative to train him up.
The biggest downside is he can’t use white or green magic. He has no AoE damage skills aside from his limit burst.
Verdict: Only train him if you need a front line fighter. Characters like Cecil, CoD and Chizuru outclass him easily.

Lore
A dark knight with arcane powers who wielded a blade infused with magic. Duane learned dark magic as advised by a superior only to be shunned and feared by his peers for his newfound powers. Though he had sought only to grow stronger, the rejection he faced after acquiring his new abilities twisted his mind. He was ultimately banished from the country for slaying several of his erstwhile comrades.
