General Thoughts

Vaan is one of the good characters aside from Locke that has the steal skill. Now, you can do Colosseum and steal to your hearts content! Stealing speeds up the time required to collect various awakening materials.

Vaan has decent health, attack and defense. One of his best skills is the Full Break. It reduces all enemy main stats(Atk/Def/Mag/Spr) by 30%. That means all your allies will deal 30% more damage to them, which works best on big bosses. Another unique skill is Focus, which gives 40% magic and spirit to all allies for 3 turns. He is a great partner for mages.

His passive abilities are Hp+20%, Atk+20% and Def+20%, all good stats for him. As a warrior, being able to learn all 3 types of mid level black, white and green magic is useful as well. His limit burst is AoE physical damage.

The only down side to him is his limited spell pool, with only Aerora being his strongest AoE spell. He also has a low mana pool.

Verdict: Max him for good steals and front line attacker!

Lore

A young man who appears in tales of Ivalice, a world foreign to this one. He lost his elder brother in the war with the Archadian Empire and was left alone in the world. He lives in the slums of the Royal City of Rabanastre, the capital of Dalmasca, and makes ends meet by doing odd jobs for a shopkeeper named Migelo—and by stealing from the Archadians who occupy the city. Though he hates the empire, which took both his brother and his homeland from him, it is not enough to inspire him to any greater action. He drifts through his days with only vague dreams of becoming a sky pirate to keep him moving.
